Trustworthy journalism depends on strong ethics and careful fact-checking. This page explains the values and verification practices we uphold at Atlanta Arts Scene.
1. Our Ethical Standards
Everyone who contributes to Atlanta Arts Scene is held to these standards:
Honesty and accuracy in all reporting; Independence from advertisers, sponsors, and political interests; Fair treatment of the subjects of our coverage; Respect for privacy where there is no overriding public interest; No plagiarism, fabrication, or misrepresentation.
2. Our Verification Process
Before we publish, we verify factual claims against reliable, primary sources wherever possible. We seek to confirm important information with more than one source, and we distinguish clearly between verified fact, analysis, and opinion.
3. Source Protection
We prefer named, on-the-record sources. We grant anonymity only when there is a genuine reason, such as risk to a source, and where the information is in the public interest. We honor commitments made to sources.
4. Independence
Our contributors avoid situations where personal, financial, or political interests could compromise, or appear to compromise, our reporting. Where a potential conflict is unavoidable, we disclose it.
5. Plagiarism and Attribution
We produce original journalism and attribute the work, data, and ideas of others clearly. Plagiarism of any kind is not tolerated.
